other interior space/ basement

English Pub

Client presented me with the desire to turn an unfinished basement to a finished room that was reminiscent of an old English Pub.

Part of this design challenge was not just the cabinetry, but also the size and scale of the bar, among other components, to fit in the overall finished space.  This space would eventually be transformed to accommodate a home theater, a bar, an area for the pool table as well as a three quarter bath and a wine cellar.

“Good design is making something intelligible and memorable. Great design is making something memorable and meaningful.”

For the primary cabinetry we utilized a maple St. Croix door in a plain inset styling with Signature Rub-Thru, Black Matte over Umber with distressing, worm holing, and wearing. The accent pieces such as the columns and accent trim are cherry, in St. Croix styling, with an amber matte stain. The secondary cabinetry in low visibility areas such as the sink base is a custom harmony inset door with ADMD2 applied molding to mimic the St. Croix door. These cabinets were finished in a Matte Black.

Notable design items include custom mullions on the glass door cabinets, along with a cherry accent interior. Glass shelves feature a cherry perimeter frame, a hand polished copper bar top also has a matching cherry bar rail applied. The appliances are concealed with matching wood fronts and there is LED lighting throughout for under counter and in cabinet use. The finished space is truly worthy of an English Pub.
